How to Make a Cheap, Easy, and Fun Leaf Craft

I saw this great craft idea in a Family Fun magazine once upon a time. They have some seriously talented crafters there.

With so many leaves on the ground I figured we could have some fun with them. This took only 3 basic, household supplies in addition to the leaves. From start to finish it took less than 5 minutes to put together. That's my kind of craft! Perfect for my toddlers.

All you need are leaves, a pencil, glue, and paper. A baggie is optional. But don't forget an adorable child or two! ;) Easy Peasy!

1. Gather some dried leaves in a plastic baggie. You don't even need the baggie if you don't mind crunching the leaves without it.
2. Close the top of the bag and crunch the leaves up.
3. On your chosen paper, draw a simple design. We used a pumpkin, leaf, circle, and tree. You could print something out from online, too, if you don't trust your freehand skills.

Don't you just love those little hands? (Sigh.) I will definitely miss those when they are grown. Inspiration just struck! Outline your child's hand for this fun project!

4. Add a thin line of glue to your drawing. My girls loved helping me squeeze the glue, but a glue stick would work just as well.
5. Sprinkle your crushed leaves on top - just like you would glitter. Knock the loose leaves off and allow the rest to dry.
6. Display your craft proudly!

Which one is your favorite? What shape will you make with your children?

Need a pumpkin treat to go with your pumpkin craft?

    1. We had a great time doing this. It really made me feel like I needed to do a lot more of these kinds of crafts. I hope you get a chance to do it with your grandchildren!

  2. Kathryn, this is brilliant. First to complete the project you need to spend some time out in the great outdoors finding the leaves. The kids would have a ball doing this as well as the craft, I love things that they can do by themselves and have a huge sense of accomplishment when they finish!!! Looks like a good amount of fun can be had by all!
